Sam was always very interested in taking Karate and started with it a few years ago. I was not a real fan of martial arts; in my mind it meant bowing down to your master who was a 35-year-old weirdo with a mullet. A friend told Mike about Master
Lim and his wife told us they were not taking new students, but Master
Lim would meet with him and if he liked him, he could stay; if not, he would go. I guess he thought Sam was okay, and allowed him to begin. It is hard to believe, but Sam recently tested for his black belt on July 9. He was lucky enough to have the support of siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who kindly came to watch his testing. Karate has been a great thing for Sam. It has certainly helped his concentration, focus and confidence.
I was thinking about Sam's progress since he started karate. He has always been a sweet boy, and as a toddler he was extremely shy and was content to be at home with his family. This picture was when he was in preschool. He was too shy to look at the camera and that would be him with the brown jacket over his head.

This is him testing for his black belt with Master
Lim.

Congratulations Sam. We are proud of your hard work and dedication. Afterwards, we celebrated the best way we know how - yummy dessert.
